SPARKER ... The Blog

All the news that's fit to forget about.

We just saw 28 Days Later -- a decent horror flick. It borrows a lot from The Stand and Dawn of the Dead (especially the latter, right down to a free-for-all shopping spree and mean army guys). While it adds some poignant elements to the formula, it suffers from one of the biggest faults of modern-day horror cinema: the jump-cut and quick-edit. Just because there's some heated action occuring on screen, that doesn't mean the camera-work has to degrade to a choppy, methamphetamine-driven idiocy in which you can't tell what's going on or who's doing it. There were also some gaping holes in the plot and serious problems with basic common sense. So, I'd call this one a definite renter, but don't bother spending ten bucks to see it on the big screen.
