SPARKER ... The Blog

All the news that's fit to forget about.

So, if you're anything like me, you're utterly paranoid over the possibility of outside vendors or websites hijacking your Web surfing through spyware and the like. Well, rest easy (as best you can) -- I've found some great applications designed for keeping your Internet experience private (as it should be) and you in control of who or what has access to your PC (as you should be).

The first I recommend is CookieWall, which you can dowload by clicking here. Its name says it all: CookieWall allows you to quickly and easily decide which cookies can stay on your system, and which cookies should go.

Second, HiJackThis, available here. It is continually updated to detect and remove new hijacks. It does not target specific programs/URLs, just the methods used by hijackers to force you onto their sites. As a result, false positives are imminent and unless you are sure what you're doing, you should always consult with knowledgable folks (e.g. the forums) before deleting anything.

Third, IP Ticker (click here) -- it detects and investigates suspicious IP activities.

And fourth, but surely not least, Kazaa BeGone (I know: thank god!). It scans and removes all elements of Kazaa and bundled spyware programs. WARNING: This version currently contains a bug that can cause your internet connection to be broken. An update is being worked on. If you still want to use Kazaa Begone, download LSPFix to fix your Internet connection (download it before you run Kazaa Begone, of course). To get it, click here.

For even more great PC-support apps, visit the Computer Cops over at http://computercops.biz.
